NightShiftAgents for Legal
The intake call you missed in court gets a reply, a conflict check request, and a consult slot. Before you are out of the courtroom.
A small firm loses clients in the two hours between the call and the callback. NightShiftAgents drafts the intake reply with your consult windows, prepares the conflict-check request for your paralegal, keeps unbilled time from going stale, and follows up on unpaid invoices. It does not give legal advice, form an engagement or touch a deadline.
Night Shift is set up for your industry. Written for the managing partner of a small firm or a solo practitioner. Runs on your machine, with your accounts.
The problem
You bill in six-minute increments and give away hours to the office.
- 01
Three intake calls came in during a two-hour hearing. Two hired the firm that called back first. It was not yours.
- 02
Unbilled time sits in Clio for weeks because the invoice run is a Saturday job. Realization drops with every week it waits.
- 03
Past clients refer when they are reminded you exist. Nobody has emailed them since the matter closed.
A working day
The same day, before and after.
Before
- 8:00 AM
Court. Phone off. Three intake calls go to voicemail.
- 12:30 PM
Return calls. One booked elsewhere, one does not answer, one wants a quote on the phone.
- 3:00 PM
Paralegal asks which of the new inquiries need a conflict check. You have not read them.
- 5:30 PM
Invoices. Three weeks of unbilled time. Not tonight.
- 8:00 PM
A web form inquiry arrives. You will see it tomorrow.
After install
- 8:00 AM
Court. Phone off. Three intake inquiries get a drafted reply with two consult windows and the intake questionnaire link within minutes, sent by your assistant under the standing rule.
- 12:30 PM
Two consults booked. The third replied with details; the agent drafted the follow-up questions.
- 3:00 PM
Conflict-check requests for all three are already in the paralegal's inbox, with the parties named and nothing else.
- 5:30 PM
Unbilled-time report ran at 4: every matter with time older than 14 days, by attorney. The draft invoices are ready for review.
- 8:00 PM
Web form inquiry arrives. Reply drafted at 8:02. You approve it from the brief tomorrow, or your rule sends it.

Read this part
What it does not do.
- It does not give legal advice or answer a legal question in any draft. Inquiries asking for advice get a consult offer and nothing else.
- It does not form an engagement, quote a fee or send an engagement letter.
- It does not run conflict checks. It prepares the request for a human.
- It does not touch court deadlines, filings, dockets or anything in your case-management calendar.
- It does not read matter files, privileged documents or client communications beyond the inquiry itself.

An intake coordinator answers the phone live and builds rapport. The agents do not answer phones. They make sure every inquiry that reaches an inbox gets a reply in minutes and every matter gets billed on time.
Market figures are typical ranges for this role, not a quote. Your Agent Improvement Plan uses your numbers.
The catch
What owners in your industry ask first.
Questions
Frequently asked.
- Is anything sent to your servers?
- No — nothing comes to us. The agents run on your machine with your logins, and drafts are written into your own email. To write a draft, the inquiry text is processed by the AI model under your firm's own Claude plan. We never hold client or prospect data.
- What about phone intake?
- If your phone system produces voicemail transcripts or missed-call emails, the agent drafts from those. If it does not, phone intake is outside what it can see, and the Agent Improvement Plan says so.
- Does it work for multiple practice areas?
- Yes. Each practice area gets its own questionnaire link, consult length and disclaimer in the company file.
- Can it send trust-account or billing reminders?
- It drafts invoice reminders with a payment link. It does not touch trust accounting in any way.
- How fast is setup?
- Intake reply is usually live within ten days of the install call. Billing agents follow once your rates and matter list are confirmed.
Under 15 minutes of questions. Then your legal night shift runs.
You get a written Agent Improvement Plan the same day: which of the agents above, in what order, and what it costs. The industry is already filled in.
